A codependent person lets another person's behavior affect them and becomes obsessed with controlling that person's behavior. Symptoms include neglecting self-care while prioritizing others, avoiding uncomfortable feelings, manipulation, martyrdom, approval-seeking, and fear of abandonment. Recovery strategies include stopping caretaking behaviors, learning to say no, establishing clear boundaries, and setting personal goals. Resources include Al-Anon, Nar-Anon, and Co-Dependents Anonymous (CoDA).
