Excuses to Drink

The addicted mind is skilled at generating excuses: celebrating, mourning, stress, boredom, social pressure, 'just one won't hurt.' Recognizing these rationalizations is critical for recovery. Having pre-planned responses, calling a sponsor, attending a meeting, or using the HALT method (checking if you're Hungry, Angry, Lonely, or Tired) can interrupt the excuse-making cycle.
