High-Risk Situations

High-risk situations are circumstances that increase the likelihood of relapse. Common triggers include people associated with past use, places where substances were used, emotional states (anger, loneliness, boredom, stress), celebrations, and physical pain. Recovery planning involves identifying personal high-risk situations and developing specific strategies for each — avoidance when possible, coping skills when not.
