Women experience addiction differently than men. Women are more likely to develop substance use disorders after traumatic experiences. They may face barriers including childcare responsibilities, financial dependence, stigma, and fear of losing custody of their children.
Women tend to develop addiction more quickly (a phenomenon known as telescoping), experience more severe consequences at lower levels of use, and face unique risks related to reproductive health, pregnancy, and hormonal factors. Gender-responsive treatment addresses these specific needs.
Many women benefit from gender-specific support groups where they can openly discuss trauma, relationships, body image, parenting, and sexuality without judgment. Women’s meetings provide spaces where women can build sisterhood and support one another.
Women in recovery demonstrate remarkable strength. Many rebuild families, pursue education, launch careers, and become powerful advocates for change. At ORTC, we honor every woman who seeks treatment and provide compassionate, comprehensive care addressing the whole person.
If you or someone you love is struggling, ORTC offers confidential, compassionate treatment. Call us today.
