Prevention Resources

Strategies and tools to prevent relapse, avoid overdose, and support long-term recovery success.

Building Skills for Lasting Recovery

Relapse prevention is a core component of addiction treatment. Through counseling and education, clients learn to recognize triggers, develop coping strategies, and build the resilience needed to maintain long-term sobriety.

Our relapse prevention program teaches practical skills including stress management, healthy decision-making, and emergency planning. Clients learn to identify warning signs early and take proactive steps to protect their recovery.

Key Prevention Strategies

  • Identify and avoid personal triggers
  • Develop healthy coping mechanisms
  • Build a strong support network
  • Practice stress management techniques
  • Create an emergency action plan

Overdose Prevention

Overdose prevention education and access to Naloxone save lives. ORTC provides these critical resources at all locations.

Naloxone (Narcan)

Naloxone is an FDA-approved medication that can rapidly reverse an opioid overdose. ORTC provides Naloxone prescriptions and training on how to recognize an overdose and administer this life-saving medication. We encourage all clients and their families to carry Naloxone.

Overdose Education

Our overdose prevention education covers how to recognize the signs of an opioid overdose, steps to take in an emergency, how to administer Naloxone, and when to call 911. This education is provided on-site at all ORTC locations as part of our commitment to saving lives.

Risk Factors & Protective Factors

Understanding what increases and decreases the risk of addiction helps individuals, families, and communities take proactive steps.

Risk Factors

Family history of substance abuse or addiction

Mental health conditions such as depression or anxiety

Early exposure to drug use or peer pressure

Chronic pain and access to prescription opioids

Trauma, abuse, or adverse childhood experiences

Protective Factors

Strong family bonds and supportive relationships

Engagement in school, work, or community activities

Access to mental health and addiction treatment services

Education about the risks of substance use

Healthy coping skills and stress management

Community Education

ORTC actively engages with the communities we serve to provide education about opioid addiction, available treatment options, and prevention strategies. Our community outreach programs aim to reduce stigma, increase awareness, and connect those in need with the help they deserve.

We partner with local organizations, healthcare providers, schools, and community groups to deliver educational presentations, distribute prevention materials, and raise awareness about the opioid crisis affecting communities across Oregon and Washington.
